New Affiliated Training Centre: Vivek High Montessori Institute

We are thrilled to announce the Vivek High Montessori Institute as the new AMI affiliated Training Centre in Chandigarh, India!

Vivek High's association with Montessori Education can be traced back to more than 55 years ago when its founder Ms Shiela Gyani Mamik completed her Montessori training course in 1967 under the guidance of Mr Joosten, who himself had worked directly under Dr. Maria Montessori to bring the training programme to India. The school, founded on Montessori philosophy ideals, soon became a centre known for ensuring the holistic development of every child under its aegis. In 2014, Ms Meenu Sahi, a passionate Montessorian and staunch advocate for protecting the rights of children and their primary role as harbingers of change in society, recognised the need for in-depth training of every educator in every classroom. Thus, with fresh determination, she collaborated with Ms Zarin Malva of R.T.I. Mumbai to bring the AMI Primary course, after more than 50 years, to North India (Chandigarh) in 2018. This led to 23 educators from the school receiving their AMI Primary diplomas and setting up twenty-two environments in the tri-city area. Finally, she was able to inculcate the Montessori Method in every primary classroom and truly imbibe the Montessori philosophy in every aspect of learning.

For the past 10 years, Vivek High School (Estd. 1984) has been dedicated to serving the needs of children through the Montessori approach, positively impacting the lives of nearly 2000 families. Building on this legacy of excellence, we are thrilled to announce the establishment of V.H.M.I. (Vivek High Montessori Institute). VHMI represents a pivotal step forward in our commitment to education and child development, to make a significant social impact in the region. Through this institute, we will provide comprehensive and high-fidelity training programmes for both educators and adults from other fields, fostering a deeper understanding of the Montessori environment and ideology.

VHMI's mission is to explore and build a thriving Montessori community in India, where dedicated child development enthusiasts train themselves and collaborate to provide high-quality Montessori education. A vibrant community that nurtures and fosters the growth of every child through prepared adults!
Currently, VHMI is introducing two training courses for adults to help them support children's educational, social and emotional needs during the primary (age 3-6) and elementary (age 6-12) years.

• AMI Primary course (3-6 years) - May 18, 2024 to January 24, 2026
• AMI Elementary course (6-12 years) - May 26, 2024 - April 10, 2026

Today Vivek High School has 8 fully functional Montessori Toddler environments, 22 Montessori Primary environments, 24 Lower Elementary environments and 24 Upper Elementary environments. Over the years, after innumerable workshops for educators and parents, Vivek High has successfully created a resounding awareness of Montessori education in the region. It has emerged as a centre of excellence in providing quality Montessori education.
