Yukie Sato

Yukie Sato

 

Yukie Sato was born in Tokyo, Japan. After a B.A., University of Hartford, Connecticut, she studied Montessori with Phyllis Wallbank and then joined the Gatehouse School, London, staff in 1966-1967. From 1968 to 1980 she worked on the editorial staff of a Japanese publishing house. She formed a study group on Early Childhood Development in a Montessori environment. In 1979 she founded "Caring for Young Refugees" (CYR), a non-governmental organization for Cambodian refugee children in Thailand. There, for fifteen years, she designed and supervised childcare activities. UNICEF Consultant in Bangladesh; Professional staff, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees ('83-95); part-time lecturer, Graduate Studies on International Public Health, Tokyo University Medical School ('93-95). Author of books on education, children's rights and refugee children, Yukie Sato has translated several books about Maria Montessori, by E.M. Standing and Paula Polk Lillard, into Japanese.
