Frank R. Wilson is a neurologist and Associate
Clinical Professor at the University of California
School of Medicine in San Francisco. For many years
he has specialised in the care of musicians and
artists, and he is the author of a recent,
critically acclaimed book, The Hand: How Its Use
Shapes the Brain, Language, and Human Culture
(Pantheon Books, 1998; a German language edition,
Die Hand, was published by Klett-Cotta Verlag last
year, and a Spanish language edition is in press).
Dr. Wilson's primary research interests concern the
neurologic and anthropologic foundations of hand
movement, with a particular emphasis on
developmental and educational influences on skill
learning.
