AMI Affiliated Societies

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN

By-law number 16 of the By-laws of the Association Montessori Internationale states the following:

16. Affiliated Montessori Societies/Associations:

An independent Montessori organization as referred to in Article 16 (3) of the Articles of Association includes Affiliated Societies.

A Montessori Society/Association wishing to be affiliated as an autonomous body connected to the A.M.I. should comply with the following rules:

(a) It must apply in writing to become an AFFILIATED A.M.I. SOCIETY and include its own Articles of Association which should show clearly adherence to A.M.I.'s objectives (see Articles 3 and 4 of the Articles of Association).

An ad hoc Evaluation Committee, to be appointed by the Board, will review the work and activities of the Society at regular intervals and may recommend disaffiliation.

(b) It must pay an annual affiliation fee to the A.M.I., to be established by the Board of the A.M.I; or its members can collectively become A.M.I members for a fee as established by the Board of the A.M.I.

(c) It should in no way engage in Montessori teacher training unless it is working in official collaboration with an A.M.I. Training Centre.

(d)It should not, without permission of the A.M.I., enter upon manufacture and/or sale of didactic material claiming that it is Montessori material, A.M.I. approved or otherwise, nor should it produce and distribute Montessori material, reference books or lectures as given in A.M.I. Courses.

(e) It should not issue in its name Certificates or Diplomas that might be thought to be A.M.I. or Montessori Diplomas except for those cases stated in By-law 16 (c). Nevertheless there should be no objection to the issuing of Certificates recording regular attendance at a series of lectures, conferences, etc. Such Certificates cannot be construed as qualifying the holder to run a Montessori class.

(f) It should send an annual report of its activities.

If the above rules are fulfilled and the Montessori Association or Society is accepted as an autonomous AFFILIATED A.M.I. SOCIETY:
- it has 1 vote in the General Meeting of the A.M.I.;
- it may state on its letterhead and publications "Affiliated to A.M.I." and use the A.M.I. logo (AMI in three concentric circles);

As stated, an Affiliated Society is an autonomous body working in adherence to AMI's aims and objectives. It is not a body entitled to represent the Association Montessori Internationale without explicit instruction to do so. Unless such instruction is duly documented, the Society has no right to assume AMI's representation. In this connection, AMI has not authorized, and does not intend to authorize, any affiliated society to police the activities of other groups or institutions in the name of AMI or in purported furtherance of AMI principles.
